Rist Blog

As instructed by my professor, we were asked to continue to watch video clips of various artists online, and to generate blogs about them. This week I decided to look into the artist Pipilotti Rist.  The first words that come to mind when I think of her work is trippy and rather personal. The reason for these references in my mind when I watch her work is for the fact that she uses rather large projection screens and in several of her pieces her artwork in mirroring itself.  This effect-the mirroring- makes for a very interesting illusion, and for rather odd and usually unrecognizable images.  I personally do not quite like this effect.  For me, the purpose of watching a video is so that I can understand and connect with what I am viewing.  Whilst watching Rist's work, I feel as though I am lost, and that the would be gentleness of her work, or rather the gentleness of her work that I would want it to have is overtaken by the harsh vocals and flashing images that accompany the works of art.  Though, in some ways I can appreciate her work, and in no way am I trying to bash her work, I simply feel that for me, it is less relaxing to watch than what I would consider a video to be.

The link to the video in which I was referring to in this blog can be found below.
